Accueil - Training programs - Animal Welfare Diploma: From Science to Law
The issue of the treatment of animals and the respect owed to them by humans is not only a media topic, but also part of a broader context in which environmental protection is becoming one of the most powerful drivers of public policy. Moreover, as recently highlighted by the French National Assembly’s Commission of Inquiry on Slaughterhouses, the training of stakeholders has become “essential” and was deemed “insufficient.”
In the field of animal welfare, the training of stakeholders is one of the key pillars of the European Commission’s strategy for animal protection. Beyond the training of State officials, it is now acknowledged that animal welfare training must be extended to all professionals interacting with animals in their work.
The diploma is open to legal professionals working with animals, whether currently practicing or in career transition, particularly graduates in law, veterinary science, agronomy, or political science (Bachelor’s level or equivalent). Applicants who do not meet these conditions but can demonstrate a specific interest and profile, along with basic knowledge of animal protection law at the time of their application, may nevertheless be admitted by decision of the academic committee.
With this training, graduates of the University Diploma (Diplôme d’Établissement) will be able to access managerial and supervisory positions in industries or services (law firms, associations, public and semi-public sectors). The most identified career paths include legal research officer or legal project officer in the public, semi-public, or non-profit sectors.
The program may also provide additional knowledge and skills for legal professions or professions related to animals, particularly farmers, professional representatives of the livestock sectors, etc. Finally, this training offers complementary expertise for practicing veterinarians wishing to strengthen their knowledge of animal protection and use it professionally (expertise for courts, insurance companies, public administration, etc.).
Candidate selection is based on an application file and an interview with the academic committee of the University Diploma.
The Animal Protection: From Science to Law University Diploma (DE PASD) includes 94 hours of in-person training :
Registration fees are €1,500 (reduced to €1,000 for students or job seekers upon presentation of proof).
